  • No Sweets for You!

Hello my name is Erin and this was definitely the most difficult challenge for me to complete! I never really realized how much sugar I ingest in a day but wow!

I started off with breakfast….usually I have either oats with brown sugar or eggs and toast. I was thinking hmmm…that’s a quick fix, I’ll just have the eggs today, no problem. Well, huge problem…no eggs. Okay, now I have to eat the oats but I hate plain oats and tomorrow is shopping day so there is nothing, and I mean nothing, in the house…okay I can throw peanut butter in there. Alright now that wasn’t so bad. Not good but not bad.

Lunch went fine. I had some homemade pea soup. No sneaky sugar there.

Midafternoon snack…crap. All I wanted was a coffee, and I don’t mean black coffee, I mean I want a mocha. A big tall luscious mocha that will make studying for this meteorology final and writing up this recreation plan look like a walk in the park with my girlfriends. Cafe au lait, yeah I suppose this was a decent compromise but this really didn’t do it for me. i ended up tossing it after a few sips sacrificing my much needed caffeine fix.

Dinner…grilled vegetables with chicken soy sauce over brown rice. Pretty satisfying but I really wanted to make my homemade sweet and sour for this one but I vowed to not have sugar which would mean ditching the 1/4 cup of brown sugar in the recipe. I didn’t want to risk it so I just went for the soy.

Late night snack…popcorn. You are not ice cream and Aunt Flo is in town and she wants chocolate and peanut butter. Hey at least she got the butter..right?

Overall this was really difficult for me but it really highlighted a problem for me. I ingest far too much sugar. I don’t ever put sugar directly on to anything but my oats so I rarely think about it. Now that I’ve had to strategically avoid it I realized I was pretty much mainlining sweetener! Sounds like I need to make a few changes to my diet.
