A Day Without Sugar :(
This was definitely the hardest challenge for me so far. Like some of the other people who posted, I eat healthy and try to eat whole foods. But sugar is kind of where I draw the line: I like dessert, I like chocolate, I like sugar in my tea.
Nevertheless, I gave it a try. Breakfast was oatmeal with a sliced up apple—not bad, but not the same as sweetened cranberries. I really missed my black tea with milk and sugar, which I replaced with green tea. Lunch was going to be canned Campbell’s Selects soup, but ALL of the varieties we had contained sugar! That was probably the most surprising find of the day. We had potatoes and beans, with a side of crackers. Yummy, actually. Dinner wasn’t a problem: we had stir-fry.
I craved sugar during the day, but I think that was mostly because I couldn’t have it. This challenge isn’t something I’ll be doing on a routine basis, but it did make me really aware of all the foods I regularly eat that do contain sugar. I’m going to try to maintain this awareness, read more labels and cut out unnecessary sugars when possible. But I think some sugar is necessary :)
