From March 1-May 1, we're getting outside of our boxes to try new foods, exercises, and other healthy activities. Follow our progress as we post about how we're meeting each week's new challenge.

I feel like I’ve been training for this week’s Challenge for quite some time.

My daily beverage of choice used to be Arizona Green Tea. At the beginning of the year, I decided to try and start drinking more water. Unless I was working out or somewhere hot, plain water just didn’t appeal to me. Over the past few months, I’ve successfully transitioned into drinking mostly water everyday … I do usually add a slice of lemon or lime into my water bottle to liven it up.

I gave up desserts for Lent this year! I didn’t give up sugar entirely for those 40 days … I still added a little brown sugar to my oatmeal in the morning and ate flavored yogurt. But no cookies, cake, candy, or chocolate … eek! It was rough at first but I ate massive quantities of fruit, especially when I got a sugar craving. Over the weeks, I found the cravings to be less rough. When Lent was over, I definitely indulged in some sugary goodness but I learned that I can survive with a lot less sugar. When I get a sugar craving, I still try and go for fruit first and have found most times I’m good with that.

I definitely don’t deprive myself if I really want something sweet and still indulge in a piece of chocolate everyday. I found this week’s Challenge to be pretty easy. With the changes I’d already started to make in my habits, the only thing I had to give up for a day was a piece of chocolate.
