  • A Not-so-Sweet Day

As soon as I read this challenge, I knew I would have some trouble with it. I have cut back on added sugars over the last 6 months and have become more conscious of the sugar placed in foods I enjoy daily. My weakness though is Splenda…I add a packet or two to coffee, smoothies, oatmeal, tea, etc. I knew I would have to work on that for this challenge.

I have switched to plain greek yogurt from vanilla or other fruit flavors, which drops the added sugars from 14+grams per serving to 9grams. I still find it amazing that ‘plain’ yogurt has added sugars. I also try to pick cereal with less than 10grams of sugar per serving.

Today I was able to avoid adding sugar or splenda to any of my meals, and drank sparkling water vs my usual diet coke. I added fruit to my yogurt and cereal, which helped add the perfect touch of sweetness. I drank my tea plain, and really enjoyed the flavor. Unfortunately, when it came to my coffee….I failed. I tried drinking it with just skim milk and hated it. Since I was going on only 3 hours of sleep, and had to do a 6 mile charity walk this morning, skipping my coffee was not an option. Two packets of Splenda went into my coffee and I was a happy camper :) At least I can say I tried.
